HEDIIP has been established to enhance the arrangements for the collection, sharing and dissemination of data and information about the HE system.

This follows the challenges set out in paragraph 6.22 of the BIS White Paper Students at the Heart of the System which called for the HE information landscape to be redesigned “in order to arrive at a new system that meets the needs of a wider group of users; reduces the duplication that currently exists, and results in timelier and more relevant data.”

The establishment of HEDIIP was been overseen by the Regulatory Partnership Group who sponsored an initial feasibility study and a second study to define a mechanism to carry this work forward.

HEDIIP was established in 2013 as a UK-wide programme to build a more coherent, responsive and less burdensome information landscape. It is funded by HEFCE, SFC, HEFCW and DEL and is hosted by HESA. HEDIIP is overseen by a Programme Board and works closely with an Advisory Panel of experts from across the landscape.

The Higher Education Data & Information Improvement Programme (HEDIIP) is a programme of work funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) Northern Ireland. HEDIIP is hosted by the Higher Education Statistics Agency Ltd (HESA) which is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England at 95 Promenade Cheltenham GL50 1HZ. Registered No.2766993.
